Provisionally Certificated Teachers (PCTs) and Overseas Trained Teachers (OTTs)

Graduates entering the teaching profession are the life blood of our education system.

So it is essential that they are well supported. We have a successful record of providing effective professional support for PCTs and OTTs in Wellington and the lower North Island / Te Ika-a-Maui that deepens pedagogical knowledge, provides practical teaching strategies and enables networking with others. Our aim is to support PCTs and OTTs to enhance, extend and develop their skills, knowledge and confidence as teachers.

The two years leading up to full registration is a busy time with PCTs and OTTs needing support to meet the requirements of registration. To that end we run workshops that explore the Registered Teacher Criteria and unpack just what it means to be a teacher in Aotearoa / New Zealand and what needs to be done to meet registration obligations. Reading, written language and mathematics have been popular topics and we are broadening the range of workshops to reflect the breadth of the NZ Curriculum and its vision, principles and competencies.

Comments from PRTs who have attended our workshops:

Great course - I got lots from it.

I just wanted to thank you for today. The session was fantastic and I learnt a lot...... This workshop was right up there with the Reading one and I feel like I have obtained the skills to be a more effective teacher.

Thanks so much for this and all of your help ... I'm looking forward to more workshops with Accent.
