Spectacular displays and relaxing environment at Wellington Botanic Garden
By Sarvuthy Soung
Botanic Garden is the biggest hill garden in Wellington with the most colourful diversity of flowers. Everyone can go to relax and see the spectacular display of tulips, roses, and some of Asia’s flowers at the same time. Besides this there are so many kinds of native trees. There is also a herb garden. What’s more we could hear the sound of the trees as well as the ducks and birds.
Not only children but also old people visit for many different activities that relate to their hobbies. Botanic Garden has a children’s play park with enjoyable fun for kids of all ages. Moreover, it is a good place for old people to do exercise by jogging or walking around the beautiful garden. Occasionally, it is a wonderful location for having a picnic and taking photos against the backdrop of nature. Also you can play family soccer on the green field in an eco-friendly environment.
More importantly, Botanic Garden is the best place for researching about biodiversity, and arranging work field visits in terms of planting vegetables or fruit. Furthermore, it is an interesting flower garden for people who like sitting reading a book. It is not too difficult for us if we need some ice cream, a café or gift shop; of course, we can find all that there. We can also see special hothouse flowers in the Begonia House. We realise how wonderful New Zealand is when we see the view from the top of the hill.
Annually people celebrate the end of winter and the arrival of spring at the Botanic Gardens. Luckily, I and my Cambodian friends had a chance to join in this spring festival which was held on 19 September-4 October 2009. I was surprised with the concert and other outdoor activities that are part of the of Kiwi lifestyle. Totally, Botanic Garden is my favourite place for releasing my feelings and getting fresh air. Honestly, I would like to thank ELTO program that took me on a visit there. It is a sweet memory for me to share with my family at home.
