A magical Christmas
Santas parade through the streets of Wellington
The Christmas festival in New Zealand is celebrated on December 24 and 25. The first is Christmas Eve and the second is the main Christmas celebration.
Family members gather for a joyful big fun party with friends, parents, grandfather, grandmother and children. There are special foods and cake as well as a Christmas tree and gifts. People enjoy fun activities such as singing carols and songs and drinking together. In addition there are happy times for families and big dinners with friends, and the special person Santa Claus who brings gifts for children. Although most people spend Christmas with each other at home, some families like to picnic outside or go to church. They believe it is a lovely and peaceful day.
Everywhere around Wellington people are preparing for the Christmas festival. On16 November 2009 was the Santa Parade through the streets of Wellington. This is a big event in the lead up to Christmas. However the weather on that day was a littlecloudy cloudy in the sky with a strong wind but in this was not a problem for most people who came to see the Santa Parade festival in Wellington city.
Thousands lined the streets waiting to see the Parade. There were military bands wearing red, Scottish highland pipe bands, and groups of lovely animal cartoon characters going step by step. They said Hello and shook hands with children making them smile and laugh. It was very lovely and a special part of the festival was the New Zealand All Whites Football team who were the winners of a football match the night before which qualified them for the World Cup. This made everybody standing on the road very happy and they called out their congratulations. “Congratulations! Well done! Well done!”
In addition there was a Chinese parade and at the end of the Santa Parade was a big Santa Bear who wore red Santa clothes, standing on a wonderful car. It looked so beautiful and there were many gifts in the Santa car. Moreover Santa Bear gave a wish and sang a Christmas song. There was a very happy atmosphere.
