Former ELTO student returns to New Zealand

Vuong Thua Phong recently returned to Wellington as head of a delegation to meet their New Zealand ministerial counterparts.
Twenty years ago, Mr Phong was an ELTO student studying English at Victoria University.
In the intervening years he has been Vietnam’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and to the Czech Republic. He is now Vice Chairman of the Commission for External Relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Mr Phong reminded us that his name “Phong” means “wind” in Vietnamese. He said that he enjoyed his return visit to Wellington as he had good memories of “Phongy” Wellington.
