Dream theatre
On 18 February, 2010, ELTO Intake 30 left the Eastern Institute of Technology to go to Taupo. During this trip, I had unforgettable memories as if in a dream. I felt I was walking in a dream and flying in the sky. I also felt as if I were in a theatre where dreams are performed. For these reasons, I want to name this trip “Dream Theatre”.
On the first day of the trip, we went to Te Apiti Wind Farm, the first New Zealand wind farm. This farm has 55 turbines and each of them can produce 1.65 megawatts. This production can supply up to 900 average homes.
Then, at Taihape Area school I could see that their vision for education and their ways of teaching are some of the best for students because students of this school have opportunities to learn arts, science, sports, technology, music , fine arts, painting, etc with the best and most modern facilities. I believe that all of the students will have the best support for their lives through the subjects which they learnt at school.
On the second day of the trip, we visited Wairakei Geothermal Power Plant. It has 55 production wells and 10 reinjection wells. It can produce about 4% of New Zealand’s power.
After this, we went to another place to go jet boating. I never imagined I would go jet boating someday. However, when I tried this, I found that it made me happy, excited and refreshed in mind and body.
Apart from the jet boating, the most exciting memory for me was the Mitai Maori concert . I had a wonderful time when I watched the entertainments. I cannot help loving the Maori culture and their active and attractive entertainment because their culture is very close to nature and it takes me back to the prehistory period.
The next day, we visited the Agrodome and studied the different kinds of sheep, deer, llama, ostrich, calves and cows around the farm. I have an unforgettable memory of the Skyline cable car. I have never been on the Skyline and never seen bungy jumping. That’s why, when I went on the Skyline for the first time, I felt pleasure, enjoyment and other unnameable feelings.
On the last day of our trip, firstly, we visited Lava Glass to study glass galleries. Then, we arrived at Huka Falls where I saw bungy for the first time. After this, we arrived at Thermal Valley and walked around. Finally, after we swam in Lake Taupo, we went back to EIT.
Like a dream that will be lost forever when we awake, I awoke from the dream when I arrived back home. But I will always remember the events of this week forever and ever.
